SHIBUMI GALLERY is pleased to present SUMMER’S EDGE, featuring the work of artists Sandra Enterline and Kelsey Simmen.

Sandra and Kelsey bring distinct yet complementary visions to this show. Sandra’s work conveys a sense of seriousness and sensuality through masterful craftsmanship, architectural lines, and delicate details such as mother-of-pearl inlays and fluttering gold petals. In contrast, Kelsey's playful collection highlights vibrant green stones, accented string, and her signature hand-grown sugar crystals.

Though their practices may initially appear divergent, SUMMER’S EDGE reveals a surprising harmony. Both artists share a vision rooted in positivity and an ability to bring forth a sense of joy through their work. Their pieces invite audiences to reflect on life’s uplifting moments, reminding us of the importance of laughter, lightness, and beauty.

SANDRA ENTERLINE studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and is currently based in San Francisco, California. Her work ranges from beautiful fine jewelry to thoughtful installations, and is meticulously crafted with a focused attention to detail. One of her most widely recognized and loved series contains pieces made with hundreds of tiny holes drilled in silver, each one patiently perforated by eye and by hand.

My current work is based on the fascination with light when seen through hundreds of tiny perforations. The pieces are minimal in form and resonate in both the natural and machined worlds. There is a powerful interplay between the interior and exterior of the pieces as light filters through. The interior is concealed by the form, and revealed by the perforations. My interest is in the seduction, power, and purity of valuable materials, including my newest work incorporating diamond slices. The diamonds are captured in crude settings, and are like delicate windows that punctuate each setting and capture light. The windows allow light to pass through each diamond, irregularly shaped and flawed with inclusions, streaks of grey, black and yellow. I make strong, simple, sculptural objects that are complex and layered, the subtlety discovered over time.

KELSEY SIMMEN is a jewelry artist who fabricates her work by hand in Northern California. She graduated with her Bachelor’s of Fine Art in San Francisco in 2009. After earning her degree she worked under several notable women in the jewelry field, accumulating a diverse toolbox to start her own jewelry studio. Kelsey’s work features sugar as a main theme. She creates textures in her pieces by growing, manipulating, and building with its crystals, from tiny sanding sugar to large rock candy. Her intention is to create beautiful pieces that are distinct and thoughtful and become part of both your everyday rituals and your unique experiences.

In this new work, I’ve been reaching for color, something I’ve been missing deeply in my studio work. I chose a variety of green materials, letting each one bring its own character and vibrancy to the pieces. While still rooted in my ongoing exploration of sugar, these works carry a fresh energy, reminding me that even within struggle, there’s space for play, growth, and possibility.
