April Higashi has been working as a contemporary art jeweler, curator and gallery owner in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 25 years. She founded Shibumi Gallery in 2005 to be a dynamic space where she could create and exhibit her work, as well as highlight the inspiring work of fellow jewelry artists. April’s own work is inspired by the inexhaustible beauty of the natural world. Her reflections upon nature’s rich color fields, subtle textures and unexpected juxtapositions are inseparable from the refined attention to detail that is the hallmark of her process and craft. Her pieces manage to feel both fresh and contemporary, yet ancient and timeless all at once, featuring organic rose cut and rustic diamonds, precious metals, and exquisite enamels.
